Session 1: The landslide and the mine¶
Everyone began at level 1. Play opened on the mountain road, went through the mine, and ended when they got out. Combat XP was 250 each. +50 each for clearing the mine puts them at 300, exactly level 2. The actual ding and Lori joining are session 2.
Date¶
Played: August 8, 2026.

Recap¶
Layrissa, Dino, Marvin, and Zink were traveling with a caravan on a mountain path, bound for the capital and its festival of fighting competitions. They did not start as a party. Marvin is often "Lord Marvin," a charlatan noble.
A thunderstorm appeared out of nowhere. Lightning, landslide, wagons into the valley. They ran into a cave that was an abandoned mine. The entrance closed. They went in because they could not go back. They figured the storm was artificially constructed and had targeted the caravan.
First fight: four giant rats on a recently dead dwarf miner. Killed by arrows, not rats. A goblin beside him, killed by a pick. Loot on the dwarf: 12 cp, 8 sp, 3 gp, a pick, lantern oil.
Closed explanation for the unlooted dwarf: he was the last of a small dwarf crew. Goblins hit them and drove the others toward the spider tunnels (wrapped dwarves and goblins found later). This one turned, killed a goblin with the pick, and went down to arrows. The rest did not loot him: rats were already on the body, they are a thunder-stone work crew not scavengers, and they do not linger on that stretch.
Deeper, a fork: four goblins digging semi-glowing thunder stone. Loot: 18 sp, 7 gp, 4 gem fragments, a map that says this fork gets more dangerous further in. They piled goblin bodies into a mine cart, pushed it toward the danger, and long-rested (end of Day 1).
After the rest (Day 2) they followed the cart. It had stopped. Bodies gone. (GM: darkmantles in the stalactites ate them.) One ambushed Zink when he stepped in. Hard fight in the dark. They nearly killed it; it fled into the ceiling; they saw more hiding spots and turned back. You counted both darkmantles in the area as defeated. No loot.
Back at the fork, the map showed a way out through spiders. Two giant spiders and two giant wolf spiders. They barely lived. Poison punches pulled. Webbing held dead goblins and dwarves. Loot: 22 gp, 35 sp, a handful of copper, thieves' tools (sticky, functional), a potion of climbing, and a potion of healing.
They got out of the mine on Day 2. +50 XP each for clearing it (300 total). Lori and the wreck are session 2 the same in-game day (played two weeks later, August 22).

Loose threads¶
- They are out of the mine. Festival and capital still unnamed.
- Who called the storm, and why this caravan?
- What are the thunder stones for?
- Darkmantles still live in that cavern (they saw more perches even if you counted two as dead).
